LES MICROBES

TOUS LES TRAITEMENTS DU MONDE
N'Y FERONT RIEN
TOUTES LES MALADIES DU MONDE...
JE M'SENS PAS BIEN
Refrain :
PARTOUT ILS SONT
PARTOUT ILS VONT
MICROBES, ILS SONT
MICROBES, ILS VONT
DOCTEUR, FAITES QUELQUE CHOSE
ILS SONT ENTRES
POUR MOI, C'EST D'LA PSYCHOSE
VITE ! FAUT M'SOIGNER
Refrain :
PARTOUT ILS SONT
PARTOUT ILS VONT
MICROBES, ILS SONT
MICROBES, ILS VONT
TOUS CES GENS MALADES,
CES GOSSES QUI CREVENT
Y A PAS D'PARADE
MICROBES ! JAMAIS EN GREVE
Refrain :
PARTOUT ILS SONT
PARTOUT ILS VONT
MICROBES, ILS SONT
MICROBES, ILS VONT
VOUS FINIREZ PAR NOUS AVOIR
LES FEMMES, LES HOMMES
DANS UN MOUROIR
Refrain :
PARTOUT ILS SONT
PARTOUT ILS VONT
MICROBES, ILS SONT
MICROBES, ILS VONT

        Death of Salvador Allende

Just prior to the capture of La Moneda (the Presidential Palace), with gunfire and explosions clearly audible in the background, Allende made what would become a famous farewell speech to Chileans on live radio, speaking of himself in the past tense, of his love for Chile and of his deep faith in its future. He stated that his commitment to Chile did not allow him to take an easy way out and be used as a propaganda tool by those he called "traitors" (accepting an offer of safe passage), clearly implying he intended to fight to the end.
"Workers of my country, I have faith in Chile and its destiny. Other men will overcome this dark and bitter moment when treason seeks to prevail. Keep in mind that, much sooner than later, the great avenues will again be opened through which will pass free men to construct a better society. Long live Chile! Long live the people! Long live the workers!"
President Salvador Allende's farewell speech, September 11, 1973.

' The Space Shuttle Columbia disaster occurred on February 1, 2003, when the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated over Texas during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere, with the loss of all seven crew, shortly before concluding its 28th mission.
The loss of the Columbia was caused by damage sustained during launch when a piece of foam insulation the size of a small briefcase broke off the main propellant tank under the aerodynamic forces of launch. The debris struck the leading edge of the left wing on the number 8 reinforced carbon-carbon (RCC) tile, damaging the Shuttle's thermal protection system (TPS). While Columbia was still in orbit, some engineers suspected damage, but NASA managers limited the investigation on the grounds that little could be done even if problems were found. '

INDUSTRIAL MUSIC

        Early influences

Luigi Russolo's 1913 work The Art of Noises is often cited as the first example of the industrial philosophy in modern music. After Russolo's musica futurista came Pierre Schaeffer and musique concrète, and this gave rise to early industrial music, which was made by manipulating cut sections of recording tape, and adding very early sound output from analog electronics devices.
Also important in the development of the genre was the Dada art movement, and later the Fluxus art movement.
Edgard Varèse was also a major pioneer in electronic music. His composition Poème électronique, for example, debuted at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair in the Philips Pavillon.

Industrial music

Industrial music is a loose term for a number of different styles of electronic and experimental music. First used in the mid-1970s to describe the then-unique sound of Industrial Records artists, a wide variety of labels and artists have since come to be called "Industrial". This definition may include avant-garde performance artists such as Throbbing Gristle, Einstürzende Neubauten, Coil and Laibach; noise projects like Merzbow or Sutcliffe Jugend or writers like William S. Burroughs and J.G. Ballard.
The term was meant by its creators to evoke the idea of music created for a new generation of people, previous music being more "agricultural". Specifically, it might have referred to the streamlined process by which the music was being made, although many people now interpret the word as a poetic reference to an "industrial" aesthetic, recalling factories and inhuman machinery.

NATURE INSPIRED AMBIENT MUSIC

The music is composed from samples and recordings of naturally occurring sounds. Sometimes these samples can be treated to make them more instrument-like. The samples may be arranged in repetitive ways to form a conventional musical structure or may be random and unfocused. Sometimes the sound is mixed with urban or "found" sounds. Examples include much of Biosphere's Substrata, Mira Calix's insect music and Chris Watson's Weather Report. Some overlap occurs between organic ambient and nature inspired ambient. One of the first albums in the genre, Wendy Carlos' Sonic Seasonings, combines sampled and synthesized nature sounds with ambient melodies and drones for a particularly relaxing effect.

COMPUTER MUSIC

Computer music is music generated or composed with the aid of computers. It also refers to a field of study that examines both the theory and application of new and existing technologies in the areas of music, sound design and diffusion, acoustics, sound synthesis, digital signal processing, and psychoacoustics. The field of computer music can trace its roots back to the origin of electronic music, and the very first experiments and innovations with electronic instruments and techno music at the turn of the 20th century.
Much of the work on computer music has drawn on the relationship between music theory and mathematics.
The world's first computer music was generated in Australia by programmer Geoff Hill on the CSIRAC computer which was designed and built by Trevor Pearcey and Maston Beard. Subsequently, Lejaren Hiller (e.g., the Illiac Suite) used a computer in the 1950s to compose works that were then played by conventional musicians.
Later developments included the work of Max Mathews at Bell Laboratories, who developed the influential MUSIC I program. Vocoder technology was also a major development in this early era. Recently, MIDI technology has allowed personal computers to interact with synthesizers through a standardized interface, which has widened the use of computer technology.
Throughout the world there are many organizations and institutions dedicated to the area of computer and electronic music study and research, including the ICMC (International Computer Music Association), IRCAM, GRAME, SEAMUS (Society for Electro Acoustic Music in the United States), and a great number of institutions of higher learning around the world.

MINIMAL MUSIC

Minimal music has been around since the late 1950s when La Monte Young began experimenting with extremely long tones in his music. By the mid - to late 60s, several other American composers, among them Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, Jon Gibson, etc. , were writing works which could be categorized as Minimalist. As with much American art, Minimal music was (and in some quarters remains) controversial, yet it has profoundly revitalized contemporary music.
Though Minimal music dates back to the late 50s, its history and development is rather murky. The generally perceived notion is that American Composers - Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, La Monte Young, etc. - created and developed the style. There were, however, a significant number of other composers who made important contributions, Glass often cites Jon Gibson, Terry Jennings and Charlemagne Palestine (all participating in the vibrant arts community in Soho in the late 60s) as early and significant Minimalists. Harold Budd, Pauline Oliveros and others whose works could be categorized as Minimalist, were active in Southern California around the same time.
While not all Minimalist compositions are easily categorized, they are frequently characterized by the following elements:

REDUCTIVE STYLE: One finds a minimum of musical means. Early works tend to have fixed, even monochromatic timbres, unchanging dynamics and unwavering tempos.
REPETITION: A motive-a brief melody or theme-is repeated numerous times before proceeding to the next. The music is often modular, comprised of a series of repeated motives. Repetition may be replaced by extended drones.
TONAL OR MODAL HARMONIES: The harmonic language however, is often non-functional.
STEADY PULSE-AN UNFLAGGING, METRONOMIC BEAT: Gradually Unfolding Process: The musical process is in the foreground, readily perceived or understood. The tradional narrative structures of music (e.g. exposition, development and recapitulation, etc...) with their inherently dramatic tension and heights are absent.
ALTERED TIME FRAME: Durations tend to be long, especially in light of the reductive style.

These first four elements fly in the face of the avant garde and academic styles of the 50s and 60s, which made the early Minimalists personae non grata. The last two characteristics, the non-narrative, non-goal oriented structures or processes, and the non-colloquial time element, yield and entirely new musical aesthetic. For the Minimalists, form and content become one and the same. Form is dictated by the process which, in turn, is the content of the work. The reductive nature of Minimal music, repetition, tonal materials and steady pulse all facilitate the perception of the gradual musical processes. Irregular or changing rhythms, chromaticism and dissonance, variable tempi, in toto, constant change and variation of the constituent musical elements would obfuscate the musical processes and were, therefore, frequently discarded by the Minimalists in their compositions. The focus on what is normally considered the minutiae of music, those elements which are usually deemed incidental, demands new modes of listening and reveals an unexpected wealth of interest and detail.

TAPE LOOP

Tape loops are loops of prerecorded magnetic tape used to create repetitive, rhythmic musical patterns. A measure of recorded magnetic tape is cut and spliced end to end, creating a circle or loop which can be played continuously, usually on a reel to reel machine. Tape loop effects are often combined with glissando, a technique wherein the playback speed of the loop is increased or decreased over time.

Simultaneous playing of tape loops to create phase patterns and rhythms was developed and initially used by musique concrète and tape music composers, and was utilized by Steve Reich for his "phasing" pieces, and by Karlheinz Stockhausen.

Pop musicians, most notably The Beatles, Can, and Pink Floyd, have used tape loops on their albums.

In the early 1970s, musicians Brian Eno and Robert Fripp created Frippertronics, a system for creating tape loops during a live performance. A few years later, Mission of Burma began using loops on their albums, and also began feeding snippets of vocals and guitar recorded moments earlier back into their live mix, thereby introducing live loop effects to punk rock. Experimental noise musician NON aka Boyd Rice played loops of speeches, radio broadcasts and conversations just under the threshold of comprehensibility in his live shows, starting in 1977. Since then, he's created loops to evoke a hypnotic, trance state in his audiences.

The length of the loop, of course, controlled the length of the repeated sound. On a standard reel-to-reel, one could loop, at most, a few seconds of music. Some were satisfied with this approach, but there were other methods to allow for longer loops. For example, one could place two reel-to-reel machines side by side and string the tape between them, using one machine for playback and the other simply as a sort of turnstile for the length of tape. By using this or other methods, some composers could create very long loops which allowed for lengthier fragments of sound. When recording his landmark 1978 ambient album Music for Airports, Brian Eno reported that for a particular song, "One of the tape loops was seventy-nine feet long and the other eighty-three feet."

Digital sampling -- which can generally provide similar results with less effort -- overtook much tape loop use, beginning in the mid 1980s. Some musicians and composers, however, continue to use tape loops for various reasons.

An interesting direction of the evolution of the tape loop is the looping pedal - a digital sampler built into an easy-to-use footswitch-operated pedal of the kind most often used by guitarists to create looping layers of melody or texture during a live performance.

An interesting direction of the evolution of the tape loop is the looping pedal - a digital sampler built into an easy-to-use footswitch-operated pedal of the kind most often used by guitarists to create looping layers of melody or texture during a live performance.

MAIL ART - ART POSTAL

Mail art (dedicated to Baudhuin Simon - Belgium)

Mail art is art which uses the postal system as a medium. The term "mail art" can refer to an individual message, the medium through which it is sent, and an art movement.

Mail artists typically exchange ephemera in the form of illustrated letters; zines; rubberstamped, decorated, or illustrated envelopes; artist trading cards; postcards; artistamps; faux postage; mail-interviews; naked mail; and three-dimensional objects.

An amorphous international mail art network, involving thousands of participants in over fifty countries, evolved between the 1950s and the 1990s from the work of Ray Johnson.[citation needed] It was influenced by other movements, including Dada and Fluxus.

One theme in mail art is that of commerce-free exchange; early mail art was, in part, a snub of gallery art, juried shows, and exclusivity in art. A saying in the mail art movement is "senders receive," meaning that one must not expect mail art to be sent to them unless they are also actively participating in the movement.

There is a rich history of creative examples sent through the post. The most familiar example is the illustrations on envelopes carrying first day issue postage stamps, which philatelists refer to as first day covers, but mail art encompasses other "decorated envelopes" as well as a wide range of other procedures and media such as rubber stamps and artistamps. Mail art is traditionally, though not always, distinguished from simply "mailed art," which is art that does not truly use the postal service but is simply regular art when sent through the mail.

When the electronic telecommunications network known as the Internet gave rise to e-mail art, conventional mail-art artists came to refer to the international postal service as the 'paper net' or snail-mail net. When a group of these artists are in some way linked through their works they are collectively referred to as a Mail Art Network or the Eternal Network.

The Mail-Art Network concept has roots in the work of earlier groups, including the Fluxus artists and the notion of 'multiples' or artworks manufactured as editions. Most commonly, Mail-Art Network artists have made and exchanged postcards, designed custom-made stamps or 'artistamps', and designed decorated or illustrated envelopes. But even large and unwieldy three-dimensional objects have been known to have been sent by Mail-Art Network artists, for many of whom the message and the medium are synonymous.

Fundamentally, mail art in the context of a Mail Art Network is a form of conceptual art. It is a 'movement' with no membership and no leaders.

MUSIC LOOP by M.Nomized

        Music Loop
In electronic music, a loop is a sample which is repeated. Loops are short sections of tracks, which you believe might work being repeated. A loop is not any sample, but specifically a small section of sound that's repeated continuously. Contrast with a one-shot sample.
Loops may be repeated through the use of tape loops, delay effects, two record players (cutting), sampling, or a sampler.
The first musicians to use loops were electronic pioneers E. Varèse and K. Stockhausen. But other musicians had used the loops as The Beatles, Terry Riley, Fripp & Eno, Jon Hassell, John Cale, Gavin Bryars, etc. Today followers including Stefan Keller, David Torn, etc.
Another approach is the use of pre-recorded loops. Use of pre-recorded loops made its way into many styles of popular music, including hip hop, trip hop, techno, drum and bass, and contemporary dub, as well as into mood music on soundtracks.
Programs to create music using loops range in features, user friendliness, and of course price.
